images1.jpegA lot of us know what Stumbleupon. For those that don’t, Stumbleupon is a great way to share your content and content you like across a network of other people and to rate and review this content giving it more exposure an increasing popularity of that content. The service allows your to surf the web using a special tool bar to “Stumble” though other sites and gives you the ability to rate each post. Stumbleupon is also a Social Network where you can meet people with the same interest and develop new friends. With developing friends you are able to share and send content to these members.

If you are interested in using Stumbleupon you will first need to create and account and then download the toolbar widget that works for Firefox and Internet Explorer. Once that is done the next thing to do is find friends that are with in your fields of interest. Once you have a few friends you will be able to send and share your content and findings with these members. The tool bar is a quick and easy way to make this possible.

Can I send a page I stumbled to a friend?
“When you Stumble! across a really good page or site, there are a number of ways to share it with your friends (Stumbleupon Friends and friends out side of SU).The first thing to remember is that when you you are sharing the page with your Stumbleupon Friends, because they will see sites that interest you (where your interests coincide). If you want to share the page more immediately, use the Send this page to icon on your toolbar to:

  • Send a page to a mutual friend (with the option to add a brief comment) – this page will go to the top of your mutual’s “stumble queue” and they will see it when they next Stumble!
  • Email the page to a friend outside of SU – this has the added advantage of introducing your friend to SU.”

How to send content:
As you see from the sites information you have to options of sending content to your friends thought the “Send-to” options and by email. Both do the same thing but the “Send-to” option is quick and easy to use though the Stumbleupon toolbar. The email option is only useful if you know the persons email address.

Using the Send-to Option:

So now you have a few friends and you have a new site you want to send to the members you have connected with. Once you are on the website you want to send you can go to the toolbar option and click the “Send-to” Button and it will give you a list of friends in your network.

Where to find the Send-to Button:

Selecting a friend:
Select the friend you would like to send the information to. You can only do one friend at a time so if you would like to sent the page to multiple people you will have to do each separately.

Send the message:
Once you select the friend to send your content to a little message window will appear for you to type in a brief message to your friend and hit the send button and your done. To send the page to other friends simply repeat these steps.

How do you receive Send-to messages:
If your friend sends you a “Send-to” Message or you send them one the way to find out is there will be a little red number beside the “Stumble!” Button on the tool bar.

Once you click the number button you will be taken to the site that the person wanted you to see and you will see a brief message appear at the top. You can also reply to this message to let them know you got the page.

Sending content by Email:
Another way to send a message is by Email. This option is also found under the “Send-to” Drop down.

Once you select to send by Email you will be asked to type in the persons address.

And your done. A few quick tips on using the Send-to option for Stumbleupon. Be sure to ask other members if they mind that you send them content and make sure to return the favor and accept theirs also. I find this to be a quick way to share content with friends and help each-other out. But I have found that a few people did not know this function existed so I decided to share it with those who did not know about the “Send-to” option so they might have an understanding of how it works.
