I’ve been seeing a disturbing trend throughout the blogosphere. As I roam from blog to blog looking for good posts to write about, I keep seeing the same stuff over and over. What I mean is there are several blogs that are in the same affiliate networks or paid to post systems and it’s very easy to tell. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen Qassia with affiliate links or NeverBlueAds with affiliate links. What about those ads for Smiley Central? All over the place. Bidvertiser, Review Me, and the list keeps going and going.
Do you want your readers to take you seriously? Then write REAL content. Even the guys over at Izea will tell you that to make every post or even every other post a “paid” post will just cause you to lose your readers. I’m not against them. I’m in all the same affiliate programs too. But at least spread them out. Get in the habit of making at least 4 or 5 posts that are NOT paid between doing the posts that are paid.
“But Mike! That means I’d only be doing a paid post about once a month!”
What? You only write on your blog once a week and then make it a paid post? Come on guys. Seriously. Update your blog more often and write real content and people will start swarming to your site. Then when you post an affiliate post, there’s more likely a chance that people will trust you enough to click the link and sign up.
This is the rule: “Content first. Readers second. Monetization third.”
That’s the order you have to use when you want to create a web site that will be viewed honestly and that will last for a long time to come.

I totally agree. I was going to write about the ups and downs of paid reviews for a new blogger. But will now my post resemble this one? It will link to it anyway.

I agree also. I have done a few reviews. None paid though.
Can’t wait to read your post. I’m sure you will have some good points to make also.
Thanks for dropping by.
Cheers

I’m glad you guys agree. Now if only we could get THOSE blogs to agree.
And Jason, I missed a spelling mistake when I sent that to you: “As I roam form” should be “As I roam from”
(Forgive me. It’s the English teacher coming out of me.)

Very nicely written, I can not belive the carp I get through email alerts..it does not seem quite right when you are trying to put real content, and maintain a site or two that this sort of thing can go on.
But, so correctly said, its boiling down to the almight dollar again. Thanks for a good read yet again!
