April 11th, 2008 Posted in Interviews

joshsite.gifThis is the first interview I have done and though it would be something new to add each week as I plan to interview atleast one blogger a week and probably keep it to a friday post. I hope you enjoy this new section and stay tuned for more to come. I fyou would like to be interviewed just shoot me an email. I would be happy to put you up.

Today we have an interview with Josh Whitford over at joshwhitford.com. Josh talks about marketing and other useful tips and tricks for you reading pleasure. I am an advid reader of Josh’s blog and read it daily. When you have time go over and check it out, there are some great post.

What is your blog/blogs url?
I run the Unconventional Marketing Blog at www.joshwhitford.com and help market and promote my girlfriend’s blog at wwww.thatmutt.com.

What made you start blogging?
I started blogging to fully emerge myself in the Internet and build up networks of friendships, partners and customers. Blogging is an excellent way for people of like mind and experience to meet and work together. It is also a great way to share your experiences with others who are learning your trade or curious about your trade (niche).

What do you like to blog about the most?

I love sharing new and different marketing ideas online and offline. I like looking at the things that people (marketeers) are both doing right and wrong. I feel that I can stay pretty neutral focusing on the topic of marketing. Otherwise, I would probably talk about politics or money. I do interject some personal development and experiences from time to time.

What is your motivation?
I like encouraging people who are starting out online to pursue their passions and let them know that it is possible to make money and drive traffic to their site for free. I just started blogging about two months ago and have achieved way more than I thought possible, even blowing away my own goals.

Where do you get the ideas for your posts?
I have mentioned in a couple blog posts that I love using Google Alerts for the keywords I have chosen to get a pulse and feel for my niche. I subscribe to about 40 blogs through Google Reader and use some of the concepts I pick up there. Also, reading books is a great way to gather ideas for blogging. I rarely run out of blogging ideas.

What marketing strategies do you use to get your blog noticed?
I love StumbleUpon, Sitehoppin, Entrecard, Digg and other social networking sites. I never pay for traffic directly but have found that a couple hit articles on StumbleUpon will bring in over 30K visitors in one month. I focus on one link, one ad, one subscriber at a time.

Do you have another job or are you a full/partime blogger?
Currently, I am a full-time blogger. I guess you can say I am a professional blogger, because I am able to make my living from the Internet. I am also working on two other projects that will be released in the next month in order to diversify my income.

Where do you see yourself/blog in 2 years?
I see myself blogging for fun like I am now. I have never intended to make all my money from blogging. I want to share my successes and failures in marketing on and offline. I hope that readers will be able to learn and laugh at my mistakes as well as successes.

What do you do when you are not blogging?
When I am not blogging, I enjoy getting a cup of coffee or throwing darts at the local pub. I really love to backpack and enjoy the outdoors a lot. Rugby is one of my favorite sports to both watch and play. I am the assistant rugby coach of the men’s rugby team at Concordia College, in Moorhead, MN. You might not be able to tell from my bulky exterior, but I do enjoy working out and lifting weights at out local club.
