Having an About Page

January 24th, 2008 Posted in Articles

853560_34703722.jpgI decided today to change my about page and add a little bit more information about who I am and why I started Blogtomic. There is not a lot to the details, but I wanted to improve it from the state it was in. I also added a photo of myself that a friend took while we were out hiking and doing some photography at Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvina. I hope this allows readers to actually know the person behind Blogtomic and put them on a more personal level. I think the about me page is an important part of a site. I’ll probably take a little more time in the future to update it some more and add a new photo when I get one or two.

I wonder why?
I wonder why most bloggers do not have an about page? I would think most bloggers would want readers to know who they are and give there blog more transparency. I like the fact that readers can find out more information about me and not just know me as the name “Blogtomic”, you can call me by my first name “Jason” if you prefer. I do notice quite a few bloggers leave out any type identity and its hard to even figure out there first name. When I want to leave a comment on a site one of the things I try to do is find there about page and get there name so I can address them on a more personal level. Some times I do this, some times I don’t as I have probably commented before on the blog or I could not find there “about page.

The “about page” should be an important page to any site, it gives the readers a better understand of who you are or what your blog is about and gives your readers a chance to have a more personal level of communication while giving them a face or name to the site. I added the photo to my about page because I want people to put a face with this blog. Like myself I’m sure  other readers out there would like to put a face with the blogs they are reading also.

It’s really simple
You do not have to write a whole lot to give your blog more connection with your readers, it can be short and simple. If you are concerned for your privacy you can leave out the major details like your last name, full address, phone number, ext.. All you really need to do is Add your name (first is ok), location or state, a brief bio or description of you or your site, why you blog, or anything along those lines. You can add a photo if you like to put a face with your site. It’s all up to you and what you feel is neccisary. Just a simple about page can do more good to your blog than not having one at all.

No stalkers please
Do protect your privacy and do not add to much personal information to your site. I give out my last name as I do on all my sites, but I am comfortable doing so as I do own a company with my personal sites so my name is all over the internet anyway. Only do what you are comfortable with.

Capture your readers
Add an about page. :)

I learnt this from the minute I started my blog, It was the first thing I done and it is very important, so if anyone does not have one, I would recommend spending time creating it!

I have an About page Beta. I’ve been looking forward to work on it. But I am using blogger and I don’t really appreciate how the About page looks like.

The about to page is pretty important in relating with the author(s). Coming soon!:)

    hi Jason:)

the subject of your post is something I have been thinking about last week, when I decided to go ahead and post an about page on my own blog after initially saying I wasn´t going to.

It is the transparency and my true desire to really make the most of my blog that made me decide to sign it with my name, still a bit weary about privacy issues… which stalker wouldn´t just fall for my smile? haha

    cheers!
