Building a web Widget for your blog.

gears.jpgI have been looking for a few Widget generators the past few days and trying out a few that I ran across to see what they offered. In the beginning I was doing some research on RIA and Desktop Widgets but did not come across an easy solution yet, but I though I would share some other services to build a web widget for your blog that you can easily allow you or your readers to add to blogs or other social networks like Myspace, Facebook, and so on. I think this would be a great way to market your blog on other sites and draw in more members. Most of the widget generators are your basic RSS feed readers but a few have alot of options available for you to customize and create and give it your own personal look. Widgets can be a good way to drive more traffic to your blog.

Sprout Builder

Sprout was one of the first I came across that is probably my top pick so far for building a nice web widget. Sprout allows you to build a custom looking widget from scratch or start by a few templates. You can drag and drop many different components and images, videos, rss, slideshows, chipin and more to your design. The process is not to hard once you figure out all the elements and how it works. After you have created your widget Sprout makes it easy for you to publish your widget straight to your blog or social network and distribute it though a few widget databases like Spring Widgets and Clearspring. After your widget is set up it is easy for your readers to copy and add it to there own site or blog. If you update your widget again there is no need to redistribute it, the widget will instantly update. I’m working on one now though this service for The SEOtree that will hopefully be available soon.

Spring Widgets

Spring Widgets has a nice little Widget generator that you can build for an RSS feed. It is a fairly simple generator but looks nice and you can add a custom header to brand it for your site. The Spring Widget also allows readers to add the widget to there blog, social network, Google Homepage (igoogle) and if the reader has the Spring Widgets platform they can even add your widget to there desktop. Even further Spring Widgets also has a SDK kit and tutorials of creating more advanced widgets for people interested in developing there own.

Widgetbox

Widgetbox has another quick and easy generator for you to create a widget from a flash file, html/js, webpage, Blog/Feed, or from a Google gadget. The generator allows your add a few different setting like the color, layout type (two options), and your header style and image. The widget like the others also allows readers to quickly get the code to display the widget on there blog, social network or Igoogle.
