Blogging Your Way To Profit

February 23rd, 2008 Posted in Articles, Making Money

“The following is a Guest Post from David Hobson from the General Marketing Blog. I Have a fairly busy weekend so I would like to thank David for taking the time to write a post. David has a great blog, after reading the post hop over and take a read at some of his articles. - Jason”

So you have a blog, it might be a business blog or might just be a personal blog. The question is can you really make money from your blog? The answer to which is yes you can. Making money with your blog is not as hard as you might believe but it is not just going to happen overnight, it takes time and lots of effort.

I have compiled a list of ways in which will help you to start profiting from your blog, some of these tips will bring in the traffic you need to make the money and some tips on how to make the money once you have the traffic.

Start with a popular subject

Get yourself a niche to blog about. But not just any niche it has to be something you are good at writing about and it needs to be a popular subject. No point blogging about something that people don’t search for.

Sell Advertising spots.

One good thing with blogs is the ability to add spots for advertising from banners to text links. Place banners in your sidebar, header and even below each of your posts. Start with your prices low and increase them as your traffic and readership grows.

Google Adsense

Place Google Adsense on your blog if you are using the Wordpress blog platform then there are many scripts that will insert Google ads into your blog for you. Don’t expect great results right away as some Google ads pay per impressions and not per click.

Get some guest articles.

Invite other popular bloggers to write a guest post for your blog. This is a great traffic generator as their own regular readers will visit your blog to read what they have posted. This article is itself a guest article I have written especially for Blogtomic.com

Make regular posts.

This is one thing I cannot stress enough. You have to post regularly if not every day the at least every other day. Blog readers love new content and if you don’t provide it they will just go elsewhere and your traffic will drop. Plus search engines love fresh content.

If you have the guts be controversial

The occasion controversial post can really boost your blogs traffic. People love controversy I myself however do not have the guts to do it even though I know if I said what I want to say about a certain search engine it would bring me tens of thousands of visitors.

Affiliate Marketing

Adding affiliate links to your blog posts can be very rewarding. I recommend joining ClickBank.com as they are one of the biggest affiliate companies on the internet. One tip I will share with you and it’s something I haven’t even told my own readers about is you must hide your affiliate links because people will remove it so as you don’t make any money when they purchase the items.

Most affiliate links will look like this “http://xxxxx.blahblah.hoplink.com” not really very attractive is it but you can have the same affiliate link look like `www.yourdomain.com/recommends/blahblah.html`

This is how it’s done. Create a new folder on your server called recommended or whatever you want to call it. Now each time you find a new product to promote create a blank html file and give it the name of the product. Then insert the following code replacing the capitals with your information.

<html>
<head><script>window.status = ' ';</script>

<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us">
<title>PRODUCT TITLE</title>
<meta name="keywords" content>
<meta name="description" content>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../jsh01.css" mce_href="../../jsh01.css">
</head>
<frameset border="0" frameborder="0" marginleft="0" margintop="0" marginright="0" marginbottom="0" rows="100%,*">
<frame src="PLACE AFFILIATE LINK HERE" scrolling="auto" frameborder="no" border="0" noresize>
<frame topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" frameborder="no" border="0" noresize>
<noframes>
<body>
</body>
</noframes>
</frameset>
</html>

    Very nice and informative post David. I knew it would be because I am a reader of this site and yours.

    I am currently in the process of getting ad spots (I am going to try out Project Wonderful), and maybe soon I can get into affiliate marketing. Other than that I think I have covered all of your other tips.

    Thanks
