If you have logged in to your Adsense account in the past week or so you may have noticed what appears to be a friendly reminder about the new Adsense Terms and Conditions, and if you are like me you might have just clicked “I Agree” with out actually reading it, but did you notices that you now have to add a Privacy Policy to the sites you are running Adsense on? This was definitely something I skipped over until I noticed the post at 7milesdown.com and kinda glad I ran across this bit of information. So I thought I would share it with the readers here sense I see a lot of sites out there with no Private Policy on there site.

“You must have and abide by an appropriate privacy policy that clearly discloses that third parties may be placing and reading cookies on your users’ browser, or using web beacons to collect information, in the course of ads being served on your website. Your privacy policy should also include information about user options for cookie management.”

According to this new change you must now notify the users of your site about the use of cookies and/or web beacons about data collected in the ad serving process like Google Adsense and other third parties that may place cookies with in there browser and how they can manage cookies if they do not want to accept them.

So what to do?
From what I have gathered the privacy policy must be shown on all pages that ads are being displayed. So the best thing to do would be to create a new page with your policy and put a link to it in your footer or somewhere that is universal on all of your pages. For most bloggers and dynamic sites this would not be to hard, but like myself that means changing 10+ sites to be with in this new policy. I have already added the Privacy Policy for Blogging4csah.com, I guess I will get started Monday on the other sites I am running Adsense on. I am not to sure when these have to be done, but if you are wanting your payout or not wanting to get the boot i would suggest getting this done ASAP. The Adsense site did say we had until May 28, 2008 to agree to these terms so I’m sure you have at-least till then if you have accepted the terms to implement your privacy policy.

Doing some more research in on this new policy I have found a few sites that have sample templates ready for you to use or get and idea of what should be included within your Privacy Policy to meet the TOS of the Adsense Policy.

I did a combination of these in the one on Blogtomic Privacy Policy that you can view here. I would find out about in on a busy weekend and probably a busy week coming up so my other sites will have to wait, but I’m sure there is time although the clock is ticking away to get this done so it would be best to do it at your earliest convenience.
