A good printing place?

May 8th, 2008 Posted in Rambleing

I have been working on another project of mine and getting it up and running. One of the things I have done so far is ordered a few business cards from two different print companies Vista Print and GotPrint. Both companies I was really happy with the quality and pricing, except shipping that seemed a bit high at each place. I am not sure if a local printer would have the same low price, but may even out from not paying the shipping cost.

In the next few weeks I will have a brochure and a few other materials I would like to get printed. So that is the reason I am trying to figure out the best route to go with this. I’m not sure I want to pay up to $20-$30 for shipping on those items. If anyone knows of a better option that has great quality work and a low shipping cost be sure to let me know.

As far as Vista Print and GotPrint I did enjoy the quality. From Vista I ordered 1000 Cards that was $26.98 then 7 day shipping was $15 for a total of $41.98. I got these cards just matte with no gloss and the quality was very nice. As for GotPrint I ordered 250 Cards with gloss $11.98 with 7 day shipping for $8.69 that came to $20.67. All of these were 4/0 no print on back which I would have liked but wanted to keep the price low. I did order from GotPrint 2 days before Vista Print and the ones from Vista Print showed up earlier than from GotPrint which there is a big difference in there location.

I needed the cards in a hurry I think later on it would not be a problem to pay for cheaper shipping that is still a little on the high side I think, but not to bad. I just would like to see if there are any other great options out there that I might can give a go before I make a decision on other materials that I will need printed in the next few weeks. Got any?

If your cards and brochure are 4-color there are better options then Vista Print. I use 4by6.com to do my cards. While they were about $100 for 1000 cards they are 4-color double sided and a matte finish. They are awesome!

They also do 4 by 6 flyers in full color too. If you want a professional look they are worth the money. If you want to see the quality for yourself you can get a free sample of their work sent to you by mail.

I haven’t used those companies before though the pricing seems right. The shipping does seem high but I think that has a lot do with gas prices these days. I get awesome kinkos discounts so tend to use them for just about everything. They’re usually get stuff done fast, too - they’ve had things ready for me in less than an hour!
